Employee Spotlight: Alan Wisniewski – Chief Operating Officer at BizFleets

At BizFleets, our team is driven by passion, expertise, and a shared commitment to delivering innovative fleet management solutions. Today, we shine a spotlight on one of our key leaders, Alan Wisniewski, our Chief Operating Officer. Alan’s journey, both personal and professional, is one of dedication, leadership, and a genuine love for what he does. Let’s dive into his story.

From the Court to the Boardroom

Alan Wisniewski’s story begins in Southeast Michigan, where he was born into a family with deep roots in the automotive industry. A third-generation automotive professional, Alan knew early on that his path would likely lead him into the world of cars—but not without exploring other passions first.

During his time at Pennsylvania State University, Alan pursued a degree in Industrial Engineering, balancing the rigorous demands of both academics and athletics. Walking onto the Varsity Men’s Basketball team, Alan's drive and work ethic quickly earned him a spot as team captain and a scholarship—a testament to his leadership abilities. These formative years taught him the value of teamwork, resilience, and a positive attitude—principles he still carries with him today.

A Career Rooted in Strategy and Innovation

Upon graduating, Alan took his first professional steps at Ford Motor Company, where he worked in manufacturing plants, learning the ins and outs of vehicle production. But Alan’s ambitions extended beyond the assembly line. Transitioning into corporate strategy at Ford, Alan helped align cross-functional teams to drive the company’s future vehicle programs. This pivotal experience shaped his interest in strategy and operations, ultimately leading him to earn an MBA from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

After a few years with EY-Parthenon, where he crafted corporate growth strategies across multiple industries, Alan made another big leap—this time to FINN, a German mobility startup. As one of the first employees in the U.S., he played a crucial role in shaping the company’s go-to-market strategy for its car subscription service.

Leading the Charge at BizFleets

Since joining BizFleets, Alan has brought his wealth of experience to his role as COO, helping to steer the company’s operations, finance, and strategy. “What drew me to BizFleets was Tim’s unique approach to the market and the opportunity to work alongside Dennis Straight, our CTO,” says Alan. After spending several years in the strategy consulting space, helping to shape BizFleets’ strategy is one of Alan’s favorite parts of the job: “Working closely with our founder, Tim and the rest of the team to evolve into what we are today has been a lot of fun.”

For Alan, no two days are the same. “The fast-paced nature of the job keeps things exciting. We’re all moving in the same direction towards our collective goals,” he shares. Alan’s leadership style, heavily influenced by his basketball days, emphasizes the importance of a positive attitude and collaboration—a mindset he believes is key to overcoming challenges and driving success.

Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Alan finds joy in spending time with his family, which includes his wife, Amanda, their two-year-old daughter, and two energetic English bulldogs. A passionate cyclist, Alan enjoys riding outdoors in the warmer months and hitting the Peloton during the colder Michigan winters. Music is another outlet for Alan, who has played the piano since childhood and now enjoys sharing that hobby with his daughter, despite her occasional critiques of his volume!

Q&A with Alan Wisniewski

Q: Can you tell us about your current role and responsibilities?

Alan: My roles at BizFleets are a blend of operations, finance, and strategy. On the operations side, I work closely with our partners—automakers, maintenance networks, telematics vendors, fuel card providers—to ensure smooth delivery of fleet solutions to our customers. On the finance side, I help manage internal projections, work with sales to understand the pipeline, and maintain relationships with our investors. And of course, shaping our strategy is something I thoroughly enjoy, especially as we grow and evolve as a company.

Q: What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Alan: It’s hard to pin down a “typical” day at BizFleets because we all wear so many different hats. My days usually consist of external partner/vendor calls, customer sales meetings, and internal strategy sessions. Every day brings a unique set of challenges and opportunities, which keeps things fun and dynamic.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at BizFleets?

Alan: The people and the fast-paced environment. We don’t have any “slow days” here, and it’s rewarding to see our team grow and tackle challenges together. The sense of unity and shared goals really makes each day exciting.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Alan: This is a tough one, as I’ve been lucky to work with/for a ton of great people. One example that is vividly clear to me comes from my time playing basketball at Penn State. Our head coach, Pat Chambers, always told us “One of the only things you can control when you wake up is your attitude... if you make it positive, it will have a significant impact on not only yourself, but also those around you.” Having a positive attitude and solution-oriented mindset is something that I do my best to exemplify, as I’ve seen first-hand the benefits it provides. To this day, I still wear my Penn State “Attitude” bracelet as a constant reminder to stay positive.

Q: What’s your favorite place to go for lunch near the office?

Alan: I really love being close to Mexicantown. The Honey Bee Market and Mexican Village Restaurant are two of my favorites. Taking a short walk around lunchtime to those places is always a welcomed break in the workday.

Q: What’s the best book or movie you’ve enjoyed recently?

Alan: Most of the books I read today are for my daughter. Her personal favorite is the Little Blue Truck, which tells the story of a small truck who gathers all the animals in its town to help rescue another truck that is stuck in the mud. It is a great lesson in teamwork and perseverance, despite being aimed at such a young audience. On a more serious note, I have really enjoyed the Elon Musk autobiography by Walter Isaacson. Elon's story is quite lengthy, so I have not yet finished it, but with each new chapter I continue to be impressed by the obstacles he has overcome to achieve his goals.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you?

Alan: My first job was working at Quiznos at Penn State, where I earned the nickname “Wiznos” because of my last name. I still love Quiznos and will go out of my way to find one for their Chicken Carbonara sandwich!
